Jon Muq will perform at Bergenfest 2024 Thursday, June 13!

For Jon Muq, a singer-songwriter born in Uganda and now living in Austin, Texas, music is part of a larger conversation with the world. Drawing inspiration from both African and Western music, he creates beautiful songs that evoke reflection and strength. “These days the world is sad,” he explains, “so I wanted to make happy songs. I wanted to write songs that connected with the listener in a very personal way", convinced that his music can "speak many languages" depending on the needs of the listener. Muq's experiences as a child in Uganda and as an adult in America give him a unique perspective on the world. This is reflected in his ability to create a diverse musical palette that resonates across backgrounds and borders.

The highly anticipated debut album "Flying Away," produced by Dan Auerbach from The Black Keys, is set to be released on May 31, 2024. The initial promising glimpses from the album, including "Runaway" and the newly released "Shake, Shake," showcase his musical breadth and lyrical depth.
